Carry your camera and Binoculars
The beautiful places you share with your family or partner at Kerala needs to be frozen in time. Your camera is therefore a must. Binoculars are most important if you are planning to hit the wildlife sanctuaries in Kerala.

Carry tanning cream and sun guard lotions -The beaches in Kerala are marvelous getaways for tourists. But the bright omnipresent sun is ready to give you a perfect tan. Use the sun as you prefer. Get a tan, or get away from it. 

Visa
Excellent brochures, maps, and pamphlets on all of Kerala's districts are available at any KTDC office. In Kochi, the office is open daily 8-7. Trivandrum's two KTDC offices—one in town and one at the airport—are open weekdays 10-5.

In Kochi, an alternative source of information is the Tourist Desk, a private, nonprofit organization that conducts moderately priced tours and provides clear, straightforward information about the state. In Kannur, the District Tourism Promotion Council is quite active. Central Kerala is well served by the ATDC. The Government of India Tourist Office—open weekdays 9-5:30 and Saturday 9-1—has its own vehicles, boats, lodgings, and tours.

Air Travel
Air India, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways cover domestic routes; there are no flights within Kerala itself.

Rail Travel
Rail journeys in Kerala can be scenic, and more comfortable than traveling by car. The KK Express—which travels from Kanya Kumari, at India's southern tip, all the way up to New Delhi—is a good train to take through Kerala, as is the Kerala Express.

Money 
There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency that visitors can bring.

Banks 
Banks are open for transaction from 10.00 to 14.00 hrs on all days except Sundays (10.00 to 12.00 hrs).

Clothes
Wear soft cotton clothing on the beaches. For the hill stations carry light warm clothing as the nights can get chilly. Winters bring cold nights on the Western Ghats.

Houseboat
The best way to explore the Backwaters is on a houseboat.

Onam
The harvest festival in Kerala is celebrated during August-September. The famous boat races take place on the 5 th day of Onam usually in the first week of September. Those interested to witness the races are advised to visit during his time.

Shopping

Water
Tap water is purified and quite safe to drink. It is not advisable to drink water from slow moving streams, lakes or dams. Mineral water is available in sealed bottles.

Temple Codes
Footwear inside the temple and entry into the sanctum sanctorum is banned in all the temples Kerala Travel Places.

Other customs and codes of conduct and dress in temples across the State vary from each other.

Some temples do not permit entry to non-Hindus, while some do. Shirts for men and pants are banned from some temples and allowed in some others. Where they are banned, men have to be in mundus and women, in saris, half-saris or long skirts.

Nudity
Nudity is not allowed in any Kerala Travel Destination beach.

Ayurvedic Treatment
If you wish to undergo Ayurvedic treatment, it is very important to ensure that you go to an authorised centre.

Wildlife Sanctuaries

Tipping
Tipping your driver/guide. A fair tip would be around 100 rupees (£1.20) per person per day if you are satisfied. If you have had a long journey, you could tip the driver an extra 50 rupees. (70 pence) per person. If you have the same driver/ guide for your entire stay the tip is best offered at the end of your tour.
